Day 1: Istanbul - Venice
Meet at 05:00 in front of the THY counter at Istanbul Airport International Terminal. Depart for Venice on Turkish Airlines flight TK1867 at 08:00. Arrival at Venice Airport at 08:35 and then we head to the historic island by vaporetto from Tronchetto port, the final transportation point for vehicles. After an enjoyable Vaporetto ride, we get off at a point near St. Mark's Square, the historic center of the city, and begin our tour among the canals. Here, all the vehicles we are used to seeing in daily life, such as police, ambulances, garbage trucks, municipal buses, etc., have given way to boats in this motor-vehicle-free area. As we walk from the waterfront to St. Mark's Square, you can see the Venice prison and the "Ponte dei Sospiri" Bridge of Sighs connecting the prison and the Doge's Palace, San Giorgio Island directly opposite the bridge, and in the square on the main façade of the Doge's Palace, the twin columns called the city gate and the statues on these columns, which are symbols of Venice. The square where St. Mark's Basilica is located was called "the most beautiful square in the world" by Napoleon. Although the construction of the basilica was completed in the 9th century, it took until the 17th century to reach its present form. The 4 bronze horses you will see on the main façade were brought from Istanbul after the Second Crusade. During your free time, you can watch the statues on top of the clock tower strike the bell every hour, and you can go up the bell tower to see the entire Venice panorama from above.
