TOUR PROGRAM;
After picking up our guests from the designated points, we begin our journey to Istanbul. With the breaks we will take along the way, at 10:00 we head to Polonezköy, which has recently become popular. After visiting the 200-year-old Greek house and church here, we can rent bicycles or take a walk in the forest with our guests who wish. After this, we go to Şile and visit the historic Lighthouse, one of the last Ottoman structures, and then Şile Castle. Our next stop will be the famous Weeping Rocks with its legendary story. After our visit here, we proceed to Ağva. If desired, after the boat tour you will take here, we visit Yeşildere and Gökdere, give free time, and at 19:00 we end our activity and start the return journey.
ABOUT ŞİLE;
The first settled people of Şile were the Greeks. The name Şile also comes from the ancient Miletian peoples and their passion for beauty and nature. It is known that the Miletian people named their cities inspired by the natural features of the surroundings. It is accepted that when these first settlers saw the purple flowers that colored the hills and spread delightful scents around, they gave the city the name ‘Mercanköşk’ in their own language.
Şile Lighthouse was built by Sultan Abdulaziz between 1858 and 1859, after the Anadolu Lighthouse built in 1856. While the stone part was designed by Turkish architects, its metal components and the lens crystal system consisting of 8 lenses were brought from Paris. Şile Lighthouse has been serving sailors for 158 years and is among the first symbols that come to mind for Şile. Standing 60 meters above sea level and 19 meters high, it is the second-largest active lighthouse in the world and the largest active lighthouse in Turkey. The lighthouse has preserved its original structure to this day. With its octagonal structure, the lighthouse was made of stones 110 centimeters thick, and black and white horizontal bands were drawn so it could be seen better during the day. Illuminated by a 1000-watt electric lamp, the lighthouse’s light reaches 20 miles.
ABOUT AĞVA;
Ağva means "village established between two streams" and "water" in Latin. It is a coastal town north of Istanbul, between the Göksu and Yeşilçay streams. The Göksu and Yeşilçay streams pass through Ağva and flow into the Black Sea. Yeşilçay is the place of fishing boats. There are hotels on the banks of the Göksu. Canoe or pedal boat trips can be made on the streams. A few-hour tour can be organized with motorboats. The village of Hacıllı, 12 km away, is famous for its caves and waterfalls. Kilimli and Kadırga bays are very suitable for hiking.
