Day 1 Istanbul - Skopje
After meeting at Istanbul Airport’s International Terminal and completing the check-in procedures, we will depart at 08:25 with Turkish Airlines scheduled flight TK1003 to Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Upon arrival in the city at 07:55, we will begin our panoramic Skopje tour. In Skopje, where our famous poet Yahya Kemal Beyatlı was born and which he referred to as the city of saints and compared to Bursa, we will go to the castle and enjoy the city view from there. Then we will see the Yahya Pasha and Mustafa Pasha mosques, the Kapan Han, and the Çifte Hammam, which was built by Davud Pasha during the reign of Bayezid II and is now used as the National Art Gallery, all of which have survived from the approximately 600-year history of the city under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. After the Turkish Bazaar, where we will feel at home, we will reach the banks of the Vardar River, which runs through the center of Skopje, and cross the Stone Bridge with a total of 13 arches, originally built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century, but in its current form constructed during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and opened to service in 1469, and proceed toward Macedonia Square. In this main square of the city, we will see the statue of Alexander the Great, erected in 2011 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Macedonia, and the Ristik Palace, built in 1926 for the Ristik family and now serving as an office building. Our journey will continue past the Mother Teresa House, founded in her memory because the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Albanian Catholic nun Teresa, whose real name was Agnes Gonca Boyacı, was born in Skopje; the upper floor is a church and the lower floor is used as a museum presenting scenes from the nun’s life. The tour will end at the train station, a symbol of the city. Then free time until the time determined by our guide. Day 2 Skopje
After breakfast, free time. Guests who wish may join the extra Wonderful Macedonian Geography Tour. Overnight at our hotel.
Wonderful Macedonian Geography Tour: 40 Euro
As part of our tour covering Matka National Park, the Canyon, and Mount Vodno, our first stop will be Matka National Park, which fascinates everyone, local and foreign alike. In this extraordinary natural area containing the Treska River, we will see Vrelo Cave, the deepest cave in the Balkans, the canyon, and the dry 14th-century monasteries in the canyon. After our approximately one-hour boat tour, during which we will witness breathtaking views, we will go up Mount Vodno by cable car and visit Saint Panteleimon Monastery, which contains one of the largest crosses in the world. We will take a trip in fresh air and untouched nature.
Day 3 Skopje
After breakfast, free time; however, guests who wish may join the extra Macedonian Treasures: Tetovo, Ohrid, St. Naum Tour. Overnight at our hotel.
Macedonian Treasures: Tetovo, Ohrid, St. Naum Tour: 100 Euro
After our breakfast in the morning, we head to Ohrid. On the way, we stop in Tetovo and visit the Painted Mosque, and on the Silk Road we also see panoramically the 500-year-old Harabati Baba Tekke, founded in the 16th century by Sersem Ali Baba, one of Kanuni’s viziers. Then, upon arriving in Ohrid, we will take a tour introducing the historic city of Ohrid, which became one of the important bases of the Ottomans in the Balkans. During our tour, some of the places we will see are the monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius, 9th-century Byzantine monks believed to have developed the Cyrillic Alphabet, the Church of Hagia Sophia, the Ancient Theater from the Roman period, Samuel’s Fortress, St. Clement Monastery and St. Panteleimon Church, Sinan Çelebi Tomb, Plane Tree Square, the Turkish Bazaar, the Halveti Tekke, the New Bazaar, Ohrid Market, and Ohrid Lake. After our tour, we will go to St. Naum, which hosts Lake Ohrid and takes its name from Saint Naum, a student of Saint Clement, who discovered the Cyrillic alphabet; we will see the famous monastery and take a boat ride on the lake. Then free time until the time determined by our guide. At the time set by our guide, we will meet and return to the hotel to rest and stay overnight.
Day 4 Skopje – Istanbul
After breakfast, free time and check-out from the rooms. Then we will gather at the time specified by our guide and depart for Skopje Airport. After completing baggage and passport procedures, we will depart for Istanbul at 20:45 with Turkish Airlines flight TK1006. Arrival at 00:10 and the end of our tour.
