TOUR PROGRAM;
After picking up our guests from the designated points, we travel along the coastal road lined with olive groves on both sides, watching the island of Lesbos, and arrive at Behramkale village. We begin touring the village among the stone houses built from andesite stone. In the neighborhood streets, you can shop for handmade products made by the Yoruks. After completing our Behramkale village tour, we head to the Athena Temple, known as the birthplace of philosophy. Then we go down to the Assos Ancient Harbor, located right below the temple (extra). We give free time at the harbor; guests who wish can have ice cream, and those who prefer can sip their tea while looking toward Lesbos at the nearby facilities. After finishing our visit at the harbor, we arrive at Kadırga Bay.
Kadırga Bay is among the clearest beaches in the area, and we give a 4-hour break there for both swimming and lunch. After the break, we leave the area and head to Yeşilyurt village, one of the most popular villages of Mount Kazdağı. We tour this village with a guide, take a rest break at the village coffeehouse in the square, and end our tour. We arrive in Bursa around 23:00.
ABOUT ASSOS;
Assos is an ancient city located in Behramkale Village, approximately 17 km south of Çanakkale's Ayvacık district. In ancient times, it was established on the summit and slopes of a volcanic hill at the southern end of the region called Troas, opposite the island of Lesbos. Throughout history, the region came under Lydian, Persian, Pergamon, and Roman rule, and was abandoned in the Middle Ages; it was discovered by the young American architect Francis H. Bacon during excavations carried out by the American Archaeological Institute between 1880 and 1883.
When active, Assos became rich thanks to the ships passing by, as it had the only large harbor in the region. The sarcophagi made from andesite stone in Assos became world-famous for the rapid decomposition of the corpses placed inside them; in ancient times they were exported to Lebanon, Syria, Greece, and Rome. It is important in the history of philosophy because Aristotle, one of the great thinkers of the Ancient Age, lived in this city for three years and founded a school of philosophy. Assos was also visited by Paul, and the city is therefore considered sacred by Christians. Founded in 900 BC, the most striking part of this city is the Doric-style Athena Temple, built at its highest point. The city also has a large amphitheater. Today, the city of Behramkale, on the foothills and slopes of the mountain where the city is located, is still active.
