DAY 1: ISTANBUL - SARAJEVO
After our ticket, baggage, and boarding procedures at Istanbul Airport’s International Departures Terminal, we depart for Sarajevo on a Turkish Airlines flight. After a flight of approximately 1.5 hours, we arrive in Sarajevo local time. After passport control, we begin our city tour with our private vehicles waiting for us. With our vehicle, we come to the front of the central library building (Vyeçnitsa), one of the city’s landmarks, and continue our tour on foot. We see the central library, Inat Kuça, whose story will surprise you when you hear it, the Latin Bridge built during the Ottoman period, and the point where the shooting of Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife took place, an event that caused the outbreak of World War I. Our tour continues with the sebil, a tradition in the Ottoman Empire, and Sebil Square, named after this structure, and continues through the streets of Baščaršija, which has preserved its historical texture. Among the other works we will see are the Kuršumli Madrasa, the Morić and Kolobara Inns, Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque, and the Clock Tower (the only clock in the world with a muvakkithane that shows the time according to the Islamic calendar). Then we move to Ferhadija, the city’s most popular street, and our tour, which continues with buildings reflecting the architecture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire period, the Catholic Cathedral, Markale Market, and the covered market (the market where Bosnian cream, cured meat, sausage, and Travnik cheese are sold), ends at the “Eternal Flame” Monument, built in memory of the victims of World War II. Free time after our tour. Overnight at our hotel.
DAY 2: SARAJEVO
After breakfast, free time for the whole day. We recommend you taste Bosnian burek, ćevapi, tufahija dessert, and dibek coffee. Guests who wish may join our optional tours. Overnight at our hotel.
Optional Tour: Including Lunch, Mostar - Počitelj Tour: 60 Euro
Guests who wish may join the full-day Mostar-Počitelj optional tour organized by our guides. On this tour, we depart from our hotel by private bus and head toward Mostar. Upon arrival in Mostar, the most important structure we will see on our panoramic city tour will be the city’s landmark, Mostar Bridge. This UNESCO-protected bridge, unique in the world with its architectural features, was built over the Neretva River, which runs through the heart of the city, in 1566 by Mimar Hayreddin, one of Mimar Sinan’s students, using 456 blocks of stone, and is such an important Ottoman masterpiece that it gave the city its name. The bridge was destroyed in November 1993 as a result of days of bombardment by Croatian artillery. Rebuilt in 2004 by a Turkish company with the support of the Republic of Turkey, especially the World Bank, and using the original stones extracted from the river, the bridge was reconstructed by Turkish masters and reopened. Walking through Mostar’s old town, through narrow cobblestone streets, passing by works preserving the period’s authentic architecture, mosques, baths, shops, and buildings adorned with slate-stone decorated roofs, we reach Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, another important structure we will see, and it is also one of the places where we can take the most beautiful bridge photo. After our lunch, free time for shopping and personal discoveries until the meeting time announced by our guide. Gather at the announced time and depart for our second stop, Počitelj. The Ottoman village of Počitelj, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, came under Ottoman rule in 1471 and maintained its strategic importance until it was lost in 1878. In the village, one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture, you can take very beautiful photos. After the tea and coffee break here, we head back to Sarajevo.
Optional Tour: Bosnian Night Tour : 45 Euro
In the evening, guests who wish may join the dinner-inclusive Bosnian Night tour organized as an extra by our guides. We will experience an unforgettable night with our dinner in one of Sarajevo’s authentic and lively restaurants, accompanied by local music and folklore. Transfer to our hotel at the end of the night.
